FLAME High School Ministry

FLAME is the new name for High School Ministry at Incarnation. At every baptism we hear Jesus say, "Let your light shine before others that they see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16)." FLAME High School Ministry is designed to help young people in 9th - 12th grades to figure out ways to live out their faith in daily life while letting God's love shine through them into the world.

High Hopes Pizza Fundraiser
Looking for a fun and creative way to help pay for summer trips?! High Hopes pizza fundraiser is an easy way to offset the cost of camp, mission trips of even Summer Stretch! There will be an informational meeting on February 7 at 7:00 p.m. in the youth room for all those interested in selling! Our Pizza Making Day is April 14 at Christ Lutheran in Blaine. Pizzas will be sold here after all worship services on February 19, February 26 and March 4. Pizza pick up will be Sunday, April 15.

Serve and Play Release Day
Come on Monday, February 20 (President's Day) for a day of service and play. You won't want to muss out on this opportunity to join other area churches in service and fellowship! Registration due date has passed.

FLAME Sunday

Fellowship
Fellowship is an important part of FLAME Ministries - it is a time for us to check in with what is going on in our lives here at Incarnation, at home and in school, there is always good treats, and silly games! Friends are always welcome!

NOOMA Devotions
Once a month we will watch one of Rob Bells NOOMA DVDs and center our conversation on the thought provoking and interesting findings that are presented.

Worship
Think of campfires at camp- that is what you will find during our worship times! Play guitar or another instrument- bring it along!

Service Hour
Once a month gather in the Youth Room for a Service Hour. Projects will include sandwiches for 363 Ministries, cards for shut-ins, and much more!

FLAME Wednesday

Fellowship Hour
Looking for a place to hang out on Wednesday nights?! The youth room is that place!! From 6:45 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. the youth room is open to anyone in grades 9-12! There will be music, a stocked fridge, and plenty of snacks!

Good Vibrations Hand Bell Choir

FLAME Volunteer Opportunities

Bible’s for Mission Thrift Store Service Event
Help a volunteer run thrift store on what will sure to be a busy Saturday! Help stalk shelves, check people out, bag purchases and unload donations! Breakfast and Lunch will be provided at no cost!
Registration deadline is Monday, March 26.
When: Saturday, March 31; meet at Incarnation at 9:15am, we will return at 1:30 p.m.

Books for Africa

Open to high school students and their families! This St. Paul organization helps ship books to schools and organizations in Africa that are in need! Don’t miss out on this great opportunity to join Kristin, Incarnation's Director of High School Ministry, and other High school ministry families for this great project. Please sign up in the Incarnation office by Monday, April 16.

Feed My Starving Children Mobile Packing Event Set-up
FLAME high school students are needed to make Incarnation FMSC a reality!! Help set up Incarnation Hall for volunteers to pack thousands of meals for starving children around the world!

Feed My Starving Children
Incarnation will be hosting another Feed My Starving Children Mobile Packing event at Incarnation! Help pack food that will be sent to the worlds hungriest children!

Summer 2012 Opportunities

TIM Team at Camp Wapo
TIM Team is a leadership development opportunity for High School youth. TIM teamers commit to one year of service as leaders in their home congregations working primarily with younger youth. TIM Teamers will spend time at both Ox Lake and Wapo during the 6 day experience. TIM Teamers will have lodging at Ox Lake, as well as experiencing the Low / High Ropes Challenge Course. During the week, much of each day is spent at Wapo interfacing and participating as leaders amongst the younger youth from their congregation. Registration: January 23- March 5. Cost $400
When: July 7 – 13

LA Mission Trip
While in LA we will focus on a number of ministry areas, with an emphasis on working side-by-side with the people and congregations of New City Parish that serve the needs of Los Angeles residents. We will be staying at one of the churches of New City Parish. Participants may have an opportunity to minister to the needs of the homeless; provide families with food packages and hot meals; help distribute clothing, shoes, and school supplies; tutor students; assist with a children's program; learn about health and poverty issues in the urban setting; and of course, make use of the Spanish language. Other activities will include worship with a NCP church, visiting the Museum of Tolerance, Skid Row, Hollywood, and many other activities that will allow is to see more deeply the lives of those living in Los Angeles. Registration due March 5. Cost $725

FLAME Stepping Stones

Blessing of Car Keys

One of the most exciting times for high school students is when they receive their driver’s license. For parents, it can come with mixed emotions--happiness at fewer driving responsibilities, but also some worry about safety and good choices. This stepping stone is unique in that it is not a class, but a simple service of blessing for new drivers and their families!

When: April 22; 9:45 a.m. & 11:45 a.m.

Where: In Incarnation Hall immediately following the service.

Entry into High School

Students and families face a lot of changes as kids enter into high school. Students are maturing, they are more independent, and begin to juggle a lot more responsibilities. In the Entry into High School Stepping Stone, students and their parents will learn about managing commitments from a faith perspective and will get a preview of opportunities for high school students through Incarnation. For part of the time, students and parents will be on different tracts as students gain an experience of High School ministry while parents learn more about how they can continue to guide their child on their faith journey after Confirmation and throughout high school.

FLAME within Children, Youth and Family Ministries!
At Incarnation we know how important it is to have high school students actively involved with younger members. If you are interested in helping out with any other following ministry areas we would love to have you!! Contact Kristin for more details if you are interested!

SPARK Sunday
We are looking for teachers interested in working with kids ages 3 – 4th grade! Interested in teaching with a friend?! We can make that happen!
PARK

SPARK Wednesday
We are looking for teachers interested in working with kids ages 3 – 5th grade Wednesday evenings from 6: 00- 7:00 p.m.

SPARK Kids Club
A Tuesday after school programs for 3rd – 5th grade students! We are looking for FLAME ministry participants to help with recreation, crafts, help teach small group Bible Study time and to be a table parent!

IGNITE Pre-Confirmation
Help teach on a weekly basis or help with two large group events held throughout the school year!

FLAME Adult Volunteers

Adult volunteers are so important as mentors and a FLAME ministry. In order to be responsible for the safety of kids and for the protection of adult volunteers, in 2004 the Incarnation Council implemented the Policy for Protecting Children and Youth. For many volunteer positions in FLAME High School Ministry, including being a basketball coach, small group leader or driver, adult volunteers need to submit a completed background check form at least one week prior to volunteering. Background checks are valid for 3 years.
