Below are some Frequently Asked Questions you may have as a newcomer to Incarnation. If there is something you are curious about that you do not see addressed below, please feel free to contact Becky Benson at bbenson@incarnationmn.org or 651-484-7123.
If you sign the blue folder, those worshiping around you can greet you by name. Likewise, if you leave information such as name and address, someone will contact you with a greeting and an invitation to take part in programming and come back to worship. On the other hand, we will respect your desire to remain anonymous if thats more comfortable for you.
Are there Adult Learning opportunities during the Sunday morning worship hours? Yes! Nearly every Sunday morning at 8:45 and 10:05 September through May, there is an adult education opportunity, Kairos. Kairos is open to all adults and no pre-registration is required. Kairos meets in the Fireside Room and is an opportunity to discuss current topics of culture intersecting with faith. In addition, adult Bible Studies and other learning opportunities are offered throughout the year. A current list of offerings is available here.
What are Sacraments? A sacrament is the physical sign of an unseen promise. Sacraments are rites of the church that convey Gods forgiveness, life and salvation through words and physical means (ELCA.org). In the case of Holy Communion, the physical means is bread and wine, and in Holy Baptism its water. The Lutheran Church celebrates two sacraments: Holy Communion and Holy Baptism.
How do I learn about Baptism at Incarnation? Baptism is one of two Sacraments celebrated by the Lutheran Church. Baptism is a special time when a child or adult is welcomed into a new relationship with God. Baptisms are celebrated in the context of a worshiping community of faith, and are performed on Sundays when Communion is not celebrated. If you are first time
parents or have come from a non-Lutheran background, before scheduling a baptism you are asked to attend a pre-baptism class or Baptism Stepping Stone which is held approximately every other month. If you are interested in baptism for yourself or an older child or for information about baptism in general, contact the Incarnation Office at 651-484-7213 to speak to someone about baptism, or email Pastor Jeanne Markquart.
May I have my wedding at Incarnation if I am not a member? Couples do not have to be members of Incarnation to celebrate a wedding service at Incarnation. However, we do expect that at least one member of the wedding couple regularly worships at Incarnation or is actively involved in the life of Incarnation in some other way. If you are interested in celebrating your marriage vows at Incarnation, please contact the Incarnation Office at 651-484-7213 for more details.
How do I get around the building? The building is large and sprawling, so check out a map here, to learn more about how the building is arranged. There are also helpful signs and maps posted throughout the building, as well as Greeters and others who will be happy to help you find a location on Sunday morning. Whenever the Incarnation office is open, someone is often available and happy to help you learn how to find your way around the building.
