Chontala, Guatemala Incarnations newest global mission partner is the village of Chontala in the western highlands of Guatemala. This village suffered many deaths during the civil war that tore apart Guatemala in the 1980s. Out of those terrible events, several widows, under the leadership of Pastor Diego, started a weaving cooperative.
Guatemala Mission Trip: October 21- 30, 2010 Incarnations third delegation to visit our Sister Parish will travel to Guatemala in October of 2010. If you are interested in hearing more about this partnership and how you can be involved, members of the Chontala Action Group who have traveled to Guatemala will be available in Grace Hall and the Gathering Space on the first Sunday of every month. They will be located right next to the table where Fair Trade coffee and chocolate is sold. Stop by the table, look at some photos of the trip and hear stories about life in the mountains of central Guatemala.
Registration Information: You can sign up for the October trip to Chontala in the Incarnation Office. Please bring a check for the $200 non-refundable deposit made out to Incarnation with Chontala Mission Trip in the memo line. The deadline for registration is Thursday, July 15, 2010. Sister Parish
Incarnations partnership with Chontala is through Sister Parish, which offers inter-cultural faith experiences and long term, transformative relationships between people in the United States and Central America. The goal of Sister Parish is to foster mutual understanding and a commitment to peace and justice among people. To accomplish its goal, Sister Parish establishes linkages between churches in the United States and faith-based communities in Central America. The linkages are based on direct, person-to-person contact, with delegates living in each other's homes and sharing each others realities.
